How Much Should You Tip?

Tipping customs vary widely by country and service type. In the United States, the following guidelines are widely used:

• Restaurant (full service): 15–20%
• Restaurant (counter service): 10–15%
• Taxi/Rideshare: 15–20%
• Hotel housekeeping: $2–5 per night
• Hair salon: 15–20%
• Food delivery: 10–15%

Tipping in Other Countries

In Japan and South Korea, tipping is generally not customary and can even be considered rude. In Europe, rounding up the bill or leaving 5–10% is common.
